Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Reports to Plant Manager and is responsible for technical input and oversight of the implementation of processes and equipment.
  • Supports the Corporate Regulatory Compliance Manager in all NERC and Regional Reliability Entity impacting facility operations.
  • Responsible for the timely preparation and/or oversight required for routine and non-routine reports to NERC, Regional Reliability Entities, and other applicable registered entities.
  • Conducts compliance reviews to ensure continued compliance and offer recommendations for changes to enhance regulatory compliance.
  • Communicates with representatives of NERC, the Regional Reliability Entities, and applicable registered entities on behalf of the facilities and develops/issues associated reports.
  • Maintains project regulatory records and is responsible for the ("MOC") Management of Change process.
  • Make informed decisions on engineering issues and methods that are cost effective and of high quality.
  • Development and specification of equipment and materials as required in support of facility projects.
  • Development of budgetary estimates for facility projects.
  • Oversees contractor and vendor tasks and adherence to plant and corporate programs.
  • Develop and maintain plant performance monitoring systems.
  • Provides support in development of work scopes associated with scheduled and non-scheduled outages.
  • Carries out complex projects and assignments independently.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in engineering.
  • At least 5-7 years of engineering experience specific to an engineering discipline and 2 years of NERC Compliance or similar industry experience is desired.
  • Driving on company business is a requirement of this position and as such, the incumbent shall have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Overnight and short-term travel on company business is an expected part of this position, 10% travel to other facilities and off-site activities.
  • Perform repetitive and non-repetitive physical duties. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, climbing, working in awkward positions, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must live within one hour driving distance of New Covert Generating.
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. On-call status will periodically be required.

General Skills & Qualifications

  • Current Michigan PE license is desirable.
  • General knowledge of power plant operations, including the interrelationship of registered entity functions, and compliance with operation and maintenance functions.
  • General knowledge of FERC, NERC and Regional Reliability Entity (RFC) orders, regulations, standards, etc and working knowledge of monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Computer literate, including expert-level knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • High level of commitment to excellence in regulatory performance and compliance, including NERC, safety and environmental areas.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, excellent interpersonal skills and a record of building consensus among internal and external parties.
  • Ability to perform and manage multiple varied tasks in an industrial environment and to identify and analyze potentially complex compliance risks promptly.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide training to less experienced employees.
  • Proficient with OSI PI software.
  • Knowledge and use of ("MMS") Maintenance Management Systems.
